Disclosed is a coagulant agent, based on aluminium polychloride, which can be used in the field of water treatment and water purification. A non-pressure method is used for the preparation of aluminium polychloride; in the first stage, aluminium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid at 60 - 120 degrees Celsius; in the second stage, the product is partially neutralised to pH 1.1 - 2.5. Non-reactants are isolated from the reaction product and are advantageously recycled.
