<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce color filters having protective films which are excellent in water resistance and chemical resistance and have a less tendency to flawing in spite of contact with water or hot water for a long time with good mass productivity without requiring an intricate process. SOLUTION: The color filters are formed by applying a compsn. contg. colloidal silica, the hydrolyzate of the cyanoacrylate of formula, a polyfunctional acrylate monomer and a photopolymn. initiator onto the color filters having pixels of RGB or pixels of YMC in a hydrophilic binder and applying light energy thereto to polymerize the compsn., thereby providing the color filters with the protective films [in the formula, R denotes 1-13C univalent org. group; R<1> denotes 1 to 8C alkyl group; R<2> denotes a hydrogen atom or R (a plurality of R<2> may be different); R<3> denotes 1-8C alkylene group; a=0, 1 or 2, b=1, 2 or 3.
