Mattress system, especially for prophylactic and therapeutic use in decubitus, comprises a combination of inflatable regions (10d) inflated with air or water and regions (2, 21d) formed by a solid body having defined elasticity. Independent claims are also included for an alternative mattress system, and for a process for operating the above mattress system. Preferred Features: The inflatable regions form part of one or more mattress elements (1) and have at least one zone with regularly arranged openings in which the solid bodies forming support elements engage.
