PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method which reduces surface defects such as a sliver flaw by reducing a quantity of coarse inclusions in molten steel which adhere to an outer circumference of an immersion nozzle and then drop off owing to the movement of a molten steel surface or the like. SOLUTION: In a continuous steel casting machine, a thickness of the objects adhering to the outer circumference of the immersion nozzle facing a long side of a mold is regulated to 15mm or less in an average thickness between from the molten steel surface to one-third of an immersion length, and the casting is performed. The regulation of the adhering object thickness is preferably carried out with an electromagnetic stirring apparatus provided on the outer circumference of the mold by generating a rotary flow of the molten steel in the mold near the molten steel surface in a horizontal direction and changing a stirring direction.
