The foil (2): exhibits plasma coatings of a water impervious metal, hydrophobic and wear-resistant surface coatings (thickness less than 10 mu m), which modifies the surface of the endotracheal material. The foil comprises polyurethane, PVC, styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene and silicone and has wall thickness of 15-30 mu m. The water impervious coating is formed from silicon dioxide, metals, metallic oxides or other inorganic coatings, silanes, siloxane and fluorinated hydrocarbons such as teflon. The hydrophobic coating comprises fluorinated hydrocarbons, silanes or siloxane. The surface coating: is hydrophobic and dirt-resistance and/or self-cleaning: has reduced wear coefficients and thickness of 0.05-0.5 mu m; is anchored by chemical or physical bonding to the endotracheal; exhibits silicone, CF 4, C 2F 6, tetramethylsilane or siloxane and/or other polymers; is produced by surface segregation of copolymer additive; and contains vapor deposited silver/silver ions. The cuff consists of intrinsic hydrophobic polymer material. An independent claim is included for a cuff.
