A sound transmission reduction system for use between a floor (5) or other integer of a building construction and a suitable covering for the floor or other integer includes: a rigid single layer substrate (2) of gypsum fibreboard, fibre cement, hardboard, plywood or stabilized reconstituted wood, having a thickness of not more than 14 mm and a modulus elasticity of between 3 Gpa and 18 Gpa; a single resilient layer (3) having a thickness of not more than 10 mm secured or securable to one surface (4) of the substrate; the resilient layer being secured or securable on its opposite surface (6) to the floor or other integer, the arrangement being such that in use the securing together of the substrate and the resilient layer and the securing of the resilient layer to the floor or other integer provides a reduction of sound transmission through the floor or other integer. The resilient material can be a polyolefin such as a foamed polyethylene.
