The objective of the present invention is to provide a vehicular headlight allowing light distribution to be designed with a high degree of freedom and maintained safely even when a semiconductor laser is used as a light emitting element. This vehicular headlight is equipped with: a light emitting element emitting coherent light; a light projection optical system whereby light from a light radiation region, formed by the light from the light emitting element, is projected to form a lighting region having a defined shape; and a deflection pattern generation means for conversion into an outgoing luminous flux having a defined light distribution for long-range lighting. The deflection pattern generation means is configured in such a manner that: the light entry portion thereof is constituted by being divided into multiple deflection function regions; when each of the incoming beams entering the light entry portion is deflected and sent out, the direction of the deflection is dependent on the entry position of the light beam in the light entry portion; and each of the deflection function regions illuminates a wide region within the entire light distribution region in which the light is distributed.
