PURPOSE:To prevent an erroneous operation accompanied with copying by detecting the dimensions of an original and defining the dimensions corresponding to two-page components of originals as reference dimensions an setting the size of a copy paper to be used, based on copy magnification and reference dimensions and setting the copy magnification based on the copy paper size and reference dimensions. CONSTITUTION:When a second synthesizing mode is selected where two-page components of originals are copied on one copy paper, dimensions of the first original are detected and dimensions corresponding to two-page components of originals are defined as reference dimensions of originals. When a first automatic set mode (APS) where the copy magnification is designated is selected as automatic setting mode, the copy paper is set, based on the original dimensions and the copy magnification and a paper supply tray is selected. When a second automatic setting mode (AMS) is selected, the copy magnification is determined based on the original dimensions and the copy paper size and a scanning optical system is set in accordance with this magnification. If the automatic setting mode is not set, proper copy paper size and copy magnification are determined, and a paper supply tray is selected, and the magnification paper supply tray is selected, and the magnification of the scanning optical system is set. Thus, erroneous operation is prevented. |
