METHOD FOR PRODUCING CARBONATES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbonates with good reaction efficiency by the oxidative coupling reaction of carbon monoxide with a hydroxy compound with the use of a molecular oxygen as an oxidizing agent.

SOLUTION: The hydroxy compound represented by formula (2): R-OH (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group or a heterocyclic group) is reacted with carbon monoxide and a molecular oxygen in the presence of (A) a palladium compound and (B) a salt of a heteropoly acid containing at least P and V as the constituting elements to form a carbonate represented by formula (3): R-O-CO-O-R (wherein R is the same as defined above).
