PURPOSE:To enable consumption of a battery to be detected positively and to prevent an adverse influence on a thermal printer by a consumed battery. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal printer which uses a thermal head 16 which is driven by a battery 11 and prints letters and figures on a plain paper or a thermal paper, a voltage V of the battery 11 at the time of printing with a large voltage drop is compared with a first end voltage V1 and the voltage V of the battery 11 at the time of non-printing with a small voltage drop is compared with a second end voltage V2 which is higher than the first end voltage V1. In either case of printing or non-printing, consumption of the battery 11 can be evaluated according to the same standard, thus enabling a maximum life of the battery 11 to fully utilized. |
