A latch mechanism comprising a latch member 14 having a latch formation for receiving a striker member 18, said latch member being movable between a releasing position (as shown) in which said striker member can enter into engagement with and be released from said latch member, and a retaining position (Figure 3, not shown) in which said striker member is retained within said latch formation; a pawl member 15 movable into engagement with the latch member when the latch member is in its retaining position, for holding the latch member in said retaining position; and a blocking member 16 movable relative to the latch member and having a portion for blocking said movement of the pawl member into holding engagement with the latch member, said blocking member being movable by the striker member when engaged in the latch formation of the latch member, to release the pawl member for movement into said holding engagement with the latch member. The latch member carries a plastics cover part 29, 30 for sound deadening. |
