PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage of a fluid by filling the part around a porous flat plate of an electrode with a substance not admitting permeation of the fluid in use while part of the area is left unfilling, and allowing the fluid to flow away from the porous substance in the area left unfilling. SOLUTION: The part around a porous flat plate 2 of an electrode 1 is filled with a packing 4 not admitting permeation of a fluid 3 as an electrolytic solution, while part of the area is left in porous state to allow the fluid 3 to flow away. The reaction layer 5 and gas supply layer 6 of a gas diffusion electrode are arranged on the side face and back of the porous flat plate 2, and a passage for the fluid in use 3 is opened in the gas supply layer 6. When supplied from the supply hole 8 in an end plate 7, the electrolyte passes through the porous flat plate 2 via the passage in the gas supply layer 6. When hydrogen gas or oxygen gas is supplied from the gas supply layer 10, reactions are generated in the layer 5, and an electric power can be supplied to a load by furnishing a pair of such electrodes 1 and connecting them together through the load. Thereby the gap between the electrodes can be narrowed to lessen the resistance due to electrolyte, and leakage of the electrolyte be precluded. |
