PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To offer convenience to the user of an ink cartridge when the user purchases the ink cartridge using a vending machine.

SOLUTION: When a residual quantity of ink calculation means 16 detects ink end during use of a printer 30, a pop-up message "ink in cartridge ran short" is displayed on the screen of a computer 10. A purchase guide display means 17 outputs ink cartridge purchase guide information for a user into the screen. The output may be presented on the display or may be printed out as it is. The user attains such information as what vending machine is selling an ink cartridge or how to operate the ink cartridge.
