PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an alkali electrolyte permeate in electrode plates uniformly, suppress harm of charging and discharging reaction caused by gas sump by discharging gas rapidly, reduce non-activated parts of the plates, form a conductive counter electrode having a sufficient tensile strength, and perform chemical conversion treatment of the electrode plates by laminating it in an accurate position, and reducing the deformation of the electrodes plates laminated on the conductive counter electrodes. SOLUTION: In an activation method for electrodes plates of an alkali storage battery, electrode plates 1 containing an active material are insulated by a separator 2 in a condition close to conductive counter electrodes 3 and are immersed in an alkali electrolyte 4, and current-carrying is performed between the electrode plates 1 and the counter electrodes 3, whereby a chemical conversion treatment is performed on the conductive electrodes 1. In the activation method for the electrode plates, conductive plates provided with a a large number of projecting parts 8 on its surface are used in the counter electrodes 3. |
