PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent and stabilized picture having a constant picture density even when the spacing between a developer carrier and an image carrier changes. SOLUTION: This developing device is provided with a developer carrier 10 holding toner and an image carrier 50, on which an electrostatic latent image is formed, with a necessary spacing in-between, ad development is done by impressing an AC voltage across the developer carrier 10 and the image carrier 50. In this case, when a resistance component in the impedance of the developer carrier 10 is expressed by a(Ω), a capacitor reactance component by -b (Ω), and the frequency of the AC voltage by f(Hz), either of the following conditions should be satisfied, namely; (1) A<=5×10<9> /f and 5×10<8> <= -b<=5×10<9> /f, (2) -b<=5×10<9> /f and 5×10<8> f<=a<=5×10<9> /f, (3) 5×10<8> /f<=(a2+b2)<1/2> <=5×10<9> /f. |
