A system and method are provided for integrating a voice gateway system to incorporate an IP/PBX telephone system (33). The system includes a public switched telephone network (PSTN 2), an internet protocol (IP) network (1), and a gateway network (30) coupled to the PSTN and to the IP network to route a telephone call over the PSTN or the IP network. The gateway network has a gateway server (31) coupled to the PSTN (2) and the IP network (1) and coupled to an IP/PBX telephone system (33). The gateway server (31) is configured to automatically select over which of the IP network (1) or the PSTN (2) to route a call. Preferably, the system includes a number of gateway networks (10, 20, 30) coupled to one another via the IP Network (1) and the PSTN (2). In one embodiment, a gateway network (10) includes a PBX telephone system (12) having a voice mail server (32), and the gateway networks (10, 20, 30) are configured to provide voice mail service to a user of an IP telephone (41). |
