A sliver compacting arrangement has a suction roller (10) and a pressure roller (16). The perforated area (12) or the sliver contact area of the compacting roller (10) is slightly raised, e.g. 0.05 to 0.5 mm higher than the adjacent area. The pressure roller (16) contacts only the raised area.
