<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can raise the processing speed by controlling a timing for transferring image data when the image data stored in an auxiliary memory means is developed in a semiconductor image memory to form an image. <P>SOLUTION: A digital duplicator 1 as this image forming apparatus is so constituted that in the case where an image is formed by continuously developing a plurality of pieces of image data in the semiconductor image memory 51 from a hard disk drive 34, when the amount of image data developed in the semiconductor image memory 51 exceeds a half of the memory size of the semiconductor image memory 51, a predetermined time period for waiting development of the image is provided between the previous development of the image data and the next development of the image data, and then a memory transferring control operation for starting the development of the next image data in the semiconductor image memory 51 is carried out.
