PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment for use as an antifriction agent or a soil adhesion preventive agent, which suitably adjusts the swelling speed of a water absorbing resin even when used in the ground containing much groundwater, is restrained from separation from a substrate surface of the water absorbing rein after swelling, and evenly exerts function of reducing friction between the substrate surface and the ground (soil), and to provide a negative friction cutting method, a caisson method, a propelling method, a soil adhesion preventive steel sheet pile, and a soil adhesion preventing method using the surface treatment. SOLUTION: The surface treatment contains the water absorbing resin (a), a binder resin (b) which is insoluble in water or alkaline water, and a solvent (c) as essential ingredients. When the surface treatment is applied to the substrate surface, it functions as the friction reducing agent for reducing friction between the substrate surface and the ground (soil).
