PURPOSE: To monitor normal/defective condition of a standby battery without performing test operations which require to stop the operations of equipment. CONSTITUTION: When a battery 2 is not used, a charging current detecting circuit 11 and charging voltage detecting circuit 12 respectively detect the values of the charging current flowing to the battery 2 and the charging voltage applied across the battery 2. A control section 14 fetches the values of the current and voltage at every point of current monitoring time set in a prescribed period it through an A/D converter 13 and compares the values with prescribed allowable current and voltage ranges at every point of monitoring time by means of a current comparing means 14a and voltage comparing means 14b, respectively. When the compared result of the current comparing means 14a indicates that the charging current value is out of the allowable current range or that of the voltage comparing means 14b indicates that the charging voltage value is out of the allowable voltage range, the control section 14 judges that the battery 2 is defective by means of a defective condition discriminating means 14c. |
