PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a chair type massage apparatus compact by bringing a back rest member down forward and folding it to the side of a seat member. SOLUTION: A rotary shaft 16 is rotatably supported by frames 3 supporting the seat member 2. The back rest member 4 is fixed to this rotary shaft 16, and a rotation arm 17 is connected to the rotary shaft 16. An angle changing means 18 is provided for changing the angle of this rotation arm 17 with respect to the seat member 2. Between the rotary shaft 16 and the rotation arm 17, an engaging and disengaging means 19 for alternatively taking a mode of integrally rotating both of them or a mode of making both of them rotatable relatively is provided.
