PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent current switch capable of sufficiently suppressing generation of quench regardless of the orientation of installation of a coil. SOLUTION: The coil 6 of this permanent current switch 5 is provided with spacers 41-44 arranged among a current-carrying part 30 and flange parts 22, 23. A first current-carrying part 31 of the current-carrying part 30 is formed of a superconductive wire 50 wound toward the flange part 23 from a facing surface 22a of the flange part 22, and a second current-carrying part 31 is formed of a superconductive wire 50 wound in a direction circumferentially opposite to that of the first current-carrying layer 31 toward the flange part 22 from a facing surface 23a of the flange part 23 to be axially shifted by a half pitch with respect to the superconductive wire 50 of the first current-carrying layer 31. The spacer 41 is arranged between the first current-carrying layer 31 and the flange part 23 and restricts the movement of the first current-carrying layer 31 to the flange part 23. The spacer 42 is arranged between the second current-carrying layer 32 and the flange part 22 and restricts the movement of the second current-carrying layer 32 to the flange part 22.
