摘要 A method of manufacturing a heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) head including a read element 202, write element 204, a heating element (502, fig.5) in cerf region (504, fig.5), thermally conductive, electrical insulator 312 over the heating element and a near field transducer 226 with a metal antenna (306, fig.4). The antenna may be made from gold or gold alloy which is deformable at the operating temperatures of a HAMR head so the antenna is pre-annealed by passing a current through the heating element, the heat being conducted through layer 312 to the antenna. Heating is applied locally in this manner to avoid damaging the read head and the heating element may be removed later when the cerf region is lapped down to media facing surface (MFS, fig.5). The insulator 312 may have a thermal conductivity higher than alumina such as silicon carbide (SiC). The head may also include a waveguide (304, fig.3) and cladding material (302, fig.3).
