The present invention relates to a method for purifying an ionic liquid and a method for dehumidifying air. According to the present invention an ionic liquid having a structure of Q^+A^-, wherein Q^+ is 1,3-dialkylimidazolium ion (wherein each alkyl group independently represents a linear C1-C4 alkyl group) and A^- is an anion of acid HA having a pKa less than 3 can be purified by desorption of a volatile compound at a temperature of 100-200°C under a pressure of 100 mbar or less over a period of 0.1 h or more, and can be used for dehumidifying air.
