A system for improved road safety comprising a sub-system for detecting a traffic signal directed to a vehicle, subsystem comprising: a general positioning system, an output, an outward looking camera all mounted within vehicle, and in data communication with a processor having image analysis functionality coupled to a database; the general positioning system for providing general position of vehicle; the database comprising data regarding appearance and relative positions of road-signs and locations, such that a road sign can be identified within an area by compounding uncertainty of general positioning system with imaged area; the outward looking camera for capturing an image of field of view, the processor with image analysis functionality for identifying objects within the field of view for locating objects by comparison with information in the database, thereby identifying exact position of the vehicle; the output for outputting a driver warning. |
