The objective of the invention is to make it easy to detect the presence of a person at the periphery of an electronic instrument to be controlled. This electronic instrument control device is provided with a communication unit, a storage unit, a determining unit and a control unit. The communication unit performs short-range radio communication with a terminal device. The storage unit associates together and stores, for each electronic instrument, operating conditions corresponding to the communication state of the short-range radio communication, and operation contents corresponding to the operating conditions. The determining unit determines whether or not the communication state fulfills one of the operating conditions. If the communication state fulfills one of the operating conditions, the control unit generates a control signal which causes the electronic instrument to execute the corresponding operation content, and supplies said control signal to the electronic instrument.
