摘要 <p>An apparatus and method for assessment of suitability of calcite for desulphurisation of smoke gases according to the wet calcite process are solving the problem of a simple and quick assessment of a calcite raw material on the laboratory scale. Namely, they enable the assessment of suitability of calcite of a given supplier as well as the choice of the highest quality calcite for desulphurisation of smoke gases on the industrial scale according to the wet calcite process among various suppliers. By means of this apparatus and method, calcite is characterised with respect to its reactivity and sensitivity to impurities (Al3+ and F-). The mentioned impurities reduce the speed of dissolution of calcite particles in absorption suspensions. The method and apparatus are based on measuring and recording pH value in the calcite suspension in the presence of Al3+ and F- ions in dependence on time. The measured-out pH curve yields information on sensitivity of calcite reactivity to impurities in the absorption suspension (characteristic depth of negative peak pH value) and information on reactivity of calcite (length of time period to attain the pH value of pH=4,5). The mentioned apparatus and method are suitable tools to make a proper decision regarding the choice of the adequate supplier of calcite.</p>
