PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and approach for catalyst model parameter identification.SOLUTION: An identification apparatus comprises: a catalyst device for an engine; and a catalyst model of the catalyst device comprising a thermal model component, an adsorption and desorption component, a chemical reaction component, and a global component. The thermal model component represents heat transfer of the catalyst device, selected from the group consisting of heat transfer from a gas to a monolith, heat transfer from the monolith to a housing, and heat transfer from the housing to the ambient. The adsorption and desorption component incorporates a storage of chemical species for reaction.
