A refrigeration appliance comprising a cavity in which an ozone generating device and an ozone sensor are placed in a sealed housing unit wherein the ozone generating device is switched off automatically when the cavity is opened; wherein the ozone sensor sends input signals to a control system that adjusts a concentration of ozone to a value between about 0.04 and about 0.12 ppm; wherein a user interface on the refrigeration appliance comprises a LED light used as a feedback to show that the ozone generating device is on and a switch to allow a user to activate the ozone generating device; wherein the sealed housing unit is mounted on a rear wall of the cavity in correspondence with a notch provided in an upper rear wall of a crisper drawer wherein the crisper drawer is sealed by a glass shelf so that the ozone generated by the ozone generating device is confined in the crisper drawer; and wherein the concentration of ozone inhibits microbial growth and maintains a vitamin concentration in food. |
