PURPOSE:To control a sheet profile and width with an excellent sheet size and to improve yield, by adjusting the temp. or tension of a strip at a high temp. in a continuous annealing furnace in accordance with the transverse thickness distribution and width of the strip on either of the inlet and/or outlet side of the furnace. CONSTITUTION:The strip un-coiled from a payoff reel 1 is passed through a cleaning device 2 and a looper 3, then through a heating zone 4-holding zone 5-primary cooling zone 6-secondary cooling zone 7-overaging treatment zone 8-final cooling zone 9. The strip is then passed through a looper 10 and temper roll 11 on the outlet side and is coiled by a coiling reel 13. A thickness gas 12 and width gage 13 are provided across the transverse direction on the inlet side of the continuous annealing furnace in this invention. The part of the strip where the temp. is as high as >=550 deg.C is subjected to strip profile and width feed forward control by tension adjusters 14, 14' in accordance with the thickness and width signals from the thickness gage 12 and the width gage 13.
