In a filling level sensor (10), a coil (15) flowed through by a radio frequency alternating current is subdivided into a plurality of partial coils (16). The partial coils (16) are mounted on the front and rear side of a carrier (20) and offset respectively to each other by a step b/4, b corresponding to the coil width. The coils have an additional centre pick-off and are sequentially fed and picked off and evaluated, for example by means of linear interpolation. A very accurate determination of the filling level in a tank (11) is possible with a coarse coil spacing. <IMAGE>
