Support for a recording material, and a process for the production thereof

The invention relates to a multilayer support as a base for the lamination of a recording material containing a photocurable polymer layer, where the support has a pigment-containing binder layer on the surface facing towards the photocurable polymer layer. The binder layer is a polyurethane layer, in particular a polyurethane layer applied from aqueous dispersion. The support built up in this way is distinguished by the fact that it enables natural reproduction of the original colour image since it very substantially excludes, in particular, light scattering effects, which result in dot enlargement and thus hue shifts. It can be produced particularly advantageously by applying an aqueous anionic polyurethane dispersion containing from about 6 to 100% by weight of polyurethane (dry substance) per 100 parts by weight of pigment to a support in a conventional manner in a dry application rate from about 3 to 30 g/m<2> and evaporating the aqueous component at elevated temperature.
