INFORMATION INPUT DEVICE AND ITS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information input device and its method substituted for a mouse, a track ball and a pen input device. SOLUTION: Infrared rays and ultrasonic waves are respectively projected from an infrared-ray generating part 2 and ultrasonic wave generating parts 3, 4 in a pointing rod 1. An infrared sensor 5 on a display 11 receives infrared rays and ultrasonic sensors 6 to 8 receive ultrasonic waves. A difference between the receiving time of infrared rays by the sensor 5 which is a reference and the receiving time of ultrasonic waves by the sensors 6 to 8 is measured. A distance between the generating part 2 and the sensors 6 to 8 or between the generating part 3 and the sensors 6 to 8 is measured by multiplying the time difference by acoustic velocity and information corresponding to a position on the display 11 which is pointed out by the pointing rod 1 is inputted.
