A method for treating ready-made items of clothing, comprises: (a) preparing a mix of colouring material; (b) applying the colouring material by spreading or spraying; (c) drying the coloured item; (d) providing a covering with a material which provides waterproofing and/or fixes the colouring mix; and (e) pressing and heating in successive stages in order to make the fabric fibres and colouring mix interact stably with each other. A machine for carrying out the modification process consists of a frame (3) for supporting a moving upper presser unit (4) provided with thermal means (5) for contact with the items (2) resting on the lower bed (6). The presser unit is also provided with thermally insulating means (7) adapted to prevent its seizure. Preferably the colouring material is in a pastel shade and is metallic. 1000g of the pastel colouring material is composed of a cold mixture of organic and inorganic pigments dispersed in casein (260-290g), polyurethane (PU) binder (50-60g), anionic wax emulsion (155-175g), rubberising PU in aqueous solution (5-6g) and first and second protective film-forming agents (450-550g). The PU binder is glossy or matt. The first film-forming agent is an aqueous emulsion of acrylic esters (320-350g) and the second film-forming agent is an aliphatic PU in an aqueous dispersed system (130-200g). The waterproofing material is composed of a PU-based solution (270-280g), polyaziiridine-based catalyst (10-12g), water (10-12g) and a mixture of fatty materials (15-18g). Brightener (13-15g) and touch modifier (50-60g) are optionally added to the mix. For a metallic finish, the waterproofing material and colouring agent (20-30g) can be cold mixed.
|
