The chickens (1) are supplied via conveyor belt (2) to sloping conveyor (4) where they are separated by partitions (5). The chickens are then introduced individually into compartment (9) which is of a size that prevents the chicken from turning. The chicken's legs are then gripped by gripping elements (12) and the compartment is rotated through 180 degrees so that the chicken is in an inverted position. The compartment with the chicken is then automatically moved to the next process position and the inverted chicken is removed from the compartment by moving element (24).
