The plate (12) is fixed to the rear bearing (10) and is connected to the voltage regulator (20) by contacts (28) which extend along the axis (X-X) of the alternator across an orifice (32) that is closed off by the regulator at one axial end so as to make contact with metallic conductors (36) integrated into the plate. A moulded plastic end cover (50) has a wall (52) which extends across the second axial end of the orifice. Its internal surface faces the plate and its partitions (62, 66, 68) extend axially to surround and form housings for the free ends of the contacts.
