A new organic electroluminescence device for a picture element or surface light source of a graphic display and video display. `The conventional organic electroluminescent device, having a laminated structure comprising at least a solid organic fluorescent layer between two opposing electrodes, has the problem of short life. This problem is solved by coating the laminated structure with a protective layer of electrically insulating polymer. To manufacture the new organic electroluminescence device, it is especially preferable, at least, to manufacture the laminated structure under a series of continuous vacuum environment from forming of the luminescent layer to forming of electrodes provided directly on the luminescent layer or through an electron or hole injection layer before forming the protective layer under a vacuum environment continued from the above vacuum environment. <IMAGE> |
