The device has a fixing mechanism (30) which engages with the door restraint strap (6) when activated from the front seat. The engagement of the fixing mechanism limits the amount the door (1) will open and resists the application of further opening force. The fixing mechanism can have a rod (10) which engages an elongated hole (7) in the restraint strap. Alternatively the rod can engage a slot in the restraint strap.
