The portable power tool has an internal combustion engine powered from a fuel tank which has a removable cartridge which is connected to the machine and which is replaced when empty. This eliminates fuel filling in the field. The cartridge is fitted to the machine in a horizontal setting and the seal cap is replaced by a seal cap with two fuel hoses set through the cap. One fuel line is terminated by a ballasted inlet and leads to the carburettor. The other fuel line leads to a floating inlet and acts as a venting line. For two stroke engines the cartridge is filled with a fuel and oil mixture.
