A nitroxyl containing compound of formula T-C(R1)(R2)-C(R)(Ar)-O-N(C(R3)(R4)(R5))C(R6)(R7)(R8) (I) is new: T = a group which will either (i) react with a polydienyl lithium so that the polydiene will be terminated with (I) or (ii) be displaced by a polydienyl anion placing the molecule attached to T on the polydiene chain-end; Ar = an aromatic group having 1 or 2 rings; R, R1, R2 = hydrogen or 1-6C alkyl; and R3-R8 = phenyl or 1-6C alkyl or two of them form a 5- or 6-membered ring containing the nitrogen of the nitroxyl group. |
