A seat for a passenger vehicle, particularly an aircraft, which seat comprises a first fixed part (10) for supporting the seat adjacent a floor of a vehicle; a second movable part comprising a seat pan (20) and a back-rest (22); guiding means (50,54) for guiding movement of the second movable part relative to the first fixed part between an upright position and a fully reclined position; and selectively operable driving means (40,44,52,60) for driving progressive movement of the movable part between said positions; characterised in that said guiding means comprises at least one elongate track (54) provided on said first fixed part (10), which track is equipped with a rack (60); and in that said driving means comprises a pinion (52) that engages said rack (60) and a locking drive unit (38) for driving said pinion (52). Preferably the locking drive units comprises a selectively operable electric motor that is mounted on the back-rest, which motor is adapted to drive two substantially coaxial drive shafts (44) each drive shaft carrying a pinion (52) at an end of the shaft remote from the motor (40). <IMAGE> |
