The arrangement has a light source (44) that emits a light beam, an image acquisition device (42) with an optical axis and an electronic evaluation unit, whereby the light beam is inclined to the axis at an angle between 5 and 85 degrees, pref. 45 degrees. The image acquisition device is directed towards the ground (26) in the field so that it acquires a defined section of the field and the light source is arranged so that the light beam is incident on the ground in this section if there is no plant growth. An Independent claim is also included for a method of contactless determination of plant growth.
