The method involves performing automatic wt. monitoring of the postal items on the postal item conveyor (12) wrt. permitted wt. in relation to vol. and removing items whose wt. is not permitted for their vol. from the conveyor. The vol. and wt. of the items are automatically determined (18,30). An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for detection of postal items such as letters and packets and franking.
