PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ash melting furnace for melting general industrial waste or ashes discharged from incinerators of the industrial waste and a method of melting the ashes. SOLUTION: The ash melting furnace comprises a melting furnace body 13 made of stainless steel for melting ashes 12 in a melting bath 11, a refractory material 14 surrounding the melting furnace body 13, a heating means 15 for heating the periphery of the melting furnace body 13 and an air duct 17 for introducing stirring air 16 into the melting furnace body 13. The melting furnace body 13 comprises a partition plate 21 hanging into the opening 20 thereof, at one side of which plate the ashes 12 are charged into the furnace body to be melt in a melting bath 11, while at the other side of which plate molten slag 22 overflows into a molten slag receptor 24 through a tap hole 23.
