A potassium titanate powder, characterized in that it consists essentially of particles having a major axis length of less then 2 mu m. The potassium titanate powder preferably consists essentially of particles having a ratio of major axis length/minor axis length less than 5, and more preferably contains particles having the above ratio less than 2 in an amount of 90 % or more by number and particles having the ratio less than 3 in an amount of 97 % or more by number. The potassium titanate powder is free from the risk of carcinogenicity or the like.
