PURPOSE: A measurement system for measuring a mode pattern and optical loss of an optical waveguide is provided to precisely measure the optical loss of the optical waveguide by using Fabry-Perot resonance. CONSTITUTION: A half-wavelength rotating disc(102) is provided in front of a light source(100). A polarizer(104) is provided to set light passing trough the half-wavelength rotating disc(102) as a transverse electric mode or a transverse magnetic mode. An optical damper(106) is provided to prevent resonance generated from an inlet section of an optical waveguide. A first lens(108) adjusts a focus of light so as to allow the light to be incident into an optical waveguide sample(110). A heater(114) heats the optical waveguide sample(110) in order to vary a refractive index of the optical waveguide sample(110). A photo-detector(120) detects intensity of light passing through the optical waveguide sample(110).
