PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical thrust bearing system for a turbocharger. SOLUTION: A thrust bearing assembly of the turbocharger is provided for maintaining the constant relationship between thrust surfaces by using a geometric shape of, for example, gimbals or a spherical segment. Though the geometric shape of a spherical shape is difficult to be manufactured compared with a flat thrust bearing, the relationship between a thrust pad and a thrust washer which is more constant than the case of a normal flat thrust bearing is provided. As a result of this further constant relationship, the thrust bearing is operated at a smaller oil flow rate, and thereby, can ultimately reduce vehicle emission. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
