Benzofurans of formula (I) are new where the 3 values R5, m, and -NR3R4 are H, 1, and 1-2C N-alkylamino when -NR1R2 is mono-(1-3C alkyl)-amino, di-(1-3C alkyl)-amino, 5-6C cycloalkylamino, or a heterocyclic gp.; and the 3 values are H, 2, and -NHMe, H, 1, and 4-methylpiperazino, Me, 1 and -NHMe or H, 1 and -NMe2 when -NR1R2 is piperidino . Cpds. (I) are antiarrhythmic agents for treating tachycardia etc. A typical cpd., 4,7-dimethoxy-6-(2isopropylaminoethoxy)-5-(N-methylcarbamoyl)amin- obenzofuran, was prepd. by a 3-stage process from 5-amino-4,7-di-methoxy-6-hydroxybenzofuran. |
