In cheese kettles, to remove the whey, use is made of the fact that the cheese grains which represent the product settle to the bottom of the cheese kettle, the whey situated above being discharged. The prior art generally comprises a vessel screening off the cheese grains and a pump which removes the whey entering into the vessel. The difficulty consists in preventing the screens from becoming blocked and in the resulting complicated or bulky apparatuses. These disadvantages are avoided with the aid of the present invention. The invention comprises a drawer (2) which can be lowered into the cheese kettle (1) and which is furnished with an inlet (3), beneath which the drawer (2) can be connected to an outlet (4) in the side of the cheese kettle (1), as a result of which the whey separated by the drawer (2) can escape through the outlet (4). <IMAGE>
