PURPOSE:To obtain a new cephem compound, having antimicrobial activities and useful as a medicine, etc. CONSTITUTION:This compound is expressed by formula I [R<1> is amino or an acylamino; R<2> is a (protected)carboxy; R<3> is H, a hydroxy-protecting group, an aryl, a heterocyclic ring, an acyl or an acyl(lower)alkyl; R<7> is H or a lower alkyl; Z is O, S or NH], e.g. 2-(3-pyridyloxy)acetaldehyde diethyl acetal. Furthermore, a compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III in the presence of a solvent such as acetone and further an alkaline earth metal, etc., to afford the objective compound.
